Big Event
Last weekend, I volunteered as a jobsite leader with SEC for Big Event, the largest student-run service project in the nation. The Big Event is a yearly tradition here at Texas A&M, where the student body comes together to give back to residents in the College Station community by completing a variety of service projects. It was incredible to see how many people woke up at 7:30 on a Saturday morning to help give back to the community. My 4-person team’s job was to remove weeds and mulch a Cstat family’s yard. As a jobsite leader, I served as the point of contact between our group and the family we were helping, organized transportation and tool pickup, and delegated tasks at our jobsite. While removing some Texas-sized weeds (one was literally a 10 foot tree!) from a flooded out yard was not easy, being able to help out a local family and get get closer with some more members in SEC made the muddy endeavor more than worth it.
